Want to Make Money? (Second of Two Parts)

Have you ever had a really interesting idea at the back of your mind? Perhaps it's something newsworthy, timely, or just plain compelling. Would you like to make money out of these ideas? Read on.

Okay, you may have already written the best article ever and you may already know the publication to which you wish to send you oeuvre. But the question is, do you know how to send your article?

Before anything else, it is important that you save your contribution in a format that is "safe" or readable by most people. Should you choose to email your contributions to the email ad of the publication in question, be sure NOT to leave the Subject blank.

In a standard email, you MUST, at all times, indicate the nature of your message. Apropos article contributions, it is always safe to write: "Article contribution for (name of publication)", "(Title of Article): Article Contribution", or "Contribution for (name of publication)".

When using email, you can simply cut-and-paste the article you have written from the word processor you are using to the text box of the email. However, especially when you are sending photos together with the contribution, it is best to attach the said article.

Want to Make Money Out of Writing? Read On (First of Two Parts)

In the Philippines, there are various publications, magazines, and journals which accept article contributions from virtually ANYBODY who writes well and is knowledgeable in the subject he is writing about. A contributor does not have to be an employee of the publication. All he has to do is determine the contact details of the publication he intends to submit his contribution/s to, write an article, send it, and pray that it gets published. It's as easy as that!

Contributors must always bear in mind that for their contributions to be published:

1. The article MUST be well-written. That is, grammar, sentence structure, and coherence should be of excellent quality.

2. The article must be related to the publication's theme. For example, write science-related articles for a magazine specializing in scientific trends.

3. The article must be sent to the correct email or address. :)

For Filipino writers, you are presented with a plethora of magazines and publications which MAY accept and publish your written works. The following is a list of these:

1. The Philippine Panorama

This is The Manila Bulletin's Sunday magazine. The Philippine Panorama has no definite theme or subject of interest, so you can send in any article you want. SOME POINTERS: Write stuff that are of general interest, not too broad, and not too specialized. Write clearly and not too lengthily. Once, I made a contribution about the positive effects of technology to the environment and, through God's grace, it got published!

Avoid topics that are too specific and "heavy" for the average reader. The Philippine Panorama likes articles that are timely, well-written, and, most often, light.

2. Sunday Inquirer Magazine

Just like with the Philippine Panorama, you can send in poems in both Filipino and English to the Sunday Inquirer Magazine. Besides poetry, the focus of this magazine is on features and articles about interesting people.

Maximize Your Writing Skills!

As writers, we are often confronted with the daunting task of framing our ideas and organizing our thoughts so as to come up with a coherent and interesting angle. Sometimes, perhaps, you've felt as though your ideas are merely juggling in your head, formless and disorganized.

Do you want to know more about MAXIMIZING YOUR WRITING SKILL?

The following is derived from http://www.copyblogger.com/ernest-hemingway-top-5-tips-for-writing-well/

Ernest Hemingway’s Top 5 Tips For Writing Well:

1. Use short sentences.
Hemingway was famous for a terse minimalist style of writing that dispensed with flowery adjectives and got straight to the point. In short, Hemingway wrote with simple genius.
2. Use short first paragraphs.

3. Use vigorous English.

4. Be positive, not negative.

Since Hemingway wasn’t the cheeriest guy in the world, what does he mean by be positive? Basically, you should say what something is rather than what it isn’t.
By stating what something isn’t can be counterproductive since it is still directing the mind, albeit in the opposite way. If I told you that dental work is painless for example, you’ll still focus on the word “pain” in “painless.”
• Instead of saying “inexpensive,” say “economical,”
• Instead of saying “this procedure is painless,” say “there’s little discomfort” or “it’s relatively comfortable,”
• And instead of saying “this software is error-free” or “foolproof,” say “this software is consistent” or “stable".

5. Never have only 4 rules.

Actually, Hemingway did only have 4 rules for writing, and they were those he was given as a cub reporter at the Kansas City Star in 1917. But, as any web writer knows, having only 4 rules will never do.
